Washington - Today, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) announced that the New Jersey Transit Corporation has been awarded $1,092,821 for the final phase and completion of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Project's, the innovative New Jersey Rail project that will connect the communities of Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Weekhawken, Union City and North Bergen, funded by a mixture of state and federal funds. A remaining and final installment of $11,000 will be awarded in the fiscal year 2010.

"This project is important to help create jobs, support New Jersey businesses, reduce energy costs and save commuters time and money. It is also helps ensure clean air in New Jersey for generations to come. This light rail is important to our transportation system and to the economic development of the surrounding region. I have worked to support this project for years, dating back to my time as Mayor of Union City, and I am thrilled to see its completion."
