Menendez Announces $5 Million for Atlantic City Int'l, Cape May, Hammonton Airports

U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-NJ) today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded six separate grants to Southern New Jersey airports. The grants will be used for a variety of projects from drainage improvements and tree removal, to environmental assessments and road rehabilitation. 

“This investment helps maintain vital transportation infrastructure in South Jersey, to ensure everyone from tourists to business executives can travel the area,” said Senator Menendez. “Modernizing and maintaining our infrastructure is critical to economic growth, and I will continue to advocate for any and all necessary improvements to New Jersey’s airports.”

   Information on the grants is as follows:

 Atlantic City International: Reconstruct Perimeter Fencing required by 49 CFR 1542, Rehabilitate Acc

 Award Recipient: South Jersey Transportation Authority

 Total Grant Amount: $2,617,200.00

 Description:

This grant will provide federal funding for the Atlantic City International Airport associated with Atlantic City, New Jersey. This project will fund the rehabilitation of 1,900 feet of the airport's existing access road to preserve and enhance access to the airport. This grant will provide for the construction phase. This is phase 2 of a 2 phase project. This project will fund the reconstruction of 950 feet of perimeter fencing. The existing fencing has reached the end of its useful life.

 Atlantic City International: Conduct Environmental Study

 Award Recipient: South Jersey Transportation Authority

 Total Grant Amount: $67,500.00

 Description:

This grant will provide federal funding for the Atlantic City International Airport associated with Atlantic City, New Jersey. This project will fund an environmental assessment to evaluate any potential environmental impacts related to the on-airport obstruction removal for Runway 13/31 and Runway 4/22.

 Cape May County: Improve Airport Drainage

 Award Recipient: Delaware River and Bay Authority

 Total Grant Amount: $ 1,100,000.00

 Description:

 This grant will provide federal funding for the Cape May County Airport associated with Wildwood, New Jersey. This project will fund 6,580 feet of drainage improvements necessary to adequately handle stormwater runoff. This is the 5th and final phase of the project.

 Cape May County: Install Perimeter Fencing not Required by 49 CFR 1542

 Award Recipient: Delaware River and Bay Authority

 Total Grant Amount: $ 558,000.00

 Description:

This grant will provide federal funding for the Cape May County Airport associated with Wildwood, New Jersey. This project will fund the installation of 8,300 feet of wildlife perimeter fencing to protect the airport from wildlife hazards.

 Cape May County: Remove Obstructions

 Award Recipient: Delaware River and Bay Authority

 Total Grant Amount: $500,471.00

 Description:

This grant will provide federal funding for the Cape May County Airport associated with Wildwood, New Jersey. This project will fund the removal of tree obstructions in the Runway 10/28 and 1/19 approach and transitional surfaces. This is phase six of six.

 Hammonton Municipal: Remove Obstructions

 Award Recipient: Town of Hammonton

 Total Grant Amount: $255,820.00

 Description:

This grant will provide federal funding for the Hammonton Municipal Airport associated with Hammonton, New Jersey. This project will fund the removal of tree obstructions in the Runway 3/21 approach and/or transitional surfaces. This is phase 3 of 3.
