Chairman Menendez Statement on Framework for Resumption of Israeli-Palestinian Peace Talks

Newark, NJ - U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued this statement following Secretary of State Kerry's announcement that an agreement for the resumption of a framework for peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians has been reached.

Secretary Kerry briefed Chairman Menendez about these latest developments within the past hour. The statement follows:

"I am encouraged by today's announcement andSecretary Kerry deserves praise for his tireless efforts to bring the parties together," said Menendez. "Peace between Israel and the Palestinians is a vital U.S. national security concern, it can onlyhappenthrough face-to-face direct negotiations, and two states for two people living side by side in peace and security remains the only formula.I also strongly believe that this is thebestchance for the Palestinians to fulfill theiraspirations by negotiating with Israel and resuming the journey to achieving Arab-Israeli peace."
