Washington- U.S. Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Frank R.Lautenberg (D-NJ) announced that$995,200 in federal funding awarded to Cape May County by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to build a state-of-the-art, energy efficientbuswashfacility will be obligated, allowing the county to break ground on the project. This washingfacility, which will be located in Lower Township, will help to extend the life of the county's buses by reducing rust and corrosion - two problems that are exacerbated by theproximity of the ocean. This LEED-certified facility will also follow the state's municipal storm water regulation that prevents water pollution.

"This federal investment will certainly pay dividends for Cape May County," said Menendez. "By properly caring for the buses that so many New Jersey commuters depend on, we can extend the mileage we get out of them, saving money down the road. I'm pleased Cape May County can get to work building this green facility which will not only improve public transportation in the county, but will create jobs and give a boost to the local economy."

"These federal funds will helpbuild a new facility thatkeeps public transportation running smoothly in Cape May County, where the natural elements can damagevehicles. I am pleased to provide federal resources for this LEED-certified facility that will service the bus fleet while protecting the local environment,"saidLautenberg, a member of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, which funds this program.

TheSenators first announced this FTA grant funding, which was awarded on a competitive basis through the agency's "State of Good Repair Program", when it was awarded in October of 2010. The FTA made the funds available this week.
