Senator Menendez was at the Camden County Parks Building to announce he will soon introduce his Sustainable States Act of 2011, which builds on the success of Sustainable Jersey’s award-winning municipal sustainability certification program. Senator Menendez attended and delivered remarks at the ceremony to mark the opening of a 7,942 square foot addition which will contain an audiovisual room, storage area, men and women's bathroom (handicap accesible), and storage area. It will have an occupancy load of 720 people and be used for holiday parties, including a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, Bingo nights, religious services, and a weekly mass.
Menendez Meets with Transportation Advocates, Union Members to Call for Surface Transportation Reauthorization (Jersey City)
Senator Menendez, Tri-State Transportation Campaign Federal Advocate Ya-Ting Liu, and Amalgamated Transportation Union AFL-CIO NJ State Council Chairman Ray Greaves stood besides dozens of union workers to avert a potential failure to reauthorize the Surface Transportation Program, when Congress goes back in session in September. The federal program, which provides funding for road, bridge, and transportation projects, will expire on September 30.
Senator Menendez met with Amy Mansue, the President & CEO of Children's Specialized Hospital, and 8-year old Ariana McGuire to discuss the importance of shielding our children's healthcare from cuts needed to balance the budget.
Ariana was badly injured last July by a mishap while playing with a friend. She suffered a stroke and was not even expected to live through the night. Now, a year later, she's relearned how to walk, how to speak, and how to eat. Ariana's father Mitchell thinks it has everything to do with the care she received at the Children's Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Senator Menendez appeared at a rally in Upper Senate Park, held by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. He was presented with the All Rise Award for his past and continuing work in support of Drug Courts.
A number of celebrities also appeared and lent their support to the NADCP, including Trey Anastasio, Martin Sheen, and Matthew Perry.
Senator Menendez and Representative Frank J. Pallone Jr. were in front of The Shores Condominiums to hold a press conference announcing $7.5 million in federal funds secured for a badly needed beach replenishment initiative in Monmouth Beach. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the project should begin in November and be completed around March 2012, in time for for next summer's rush. The thinning beachfront will be expanded about 100 feet from where the current water line is.
