Senator Robert Menendez is joined by local small business owners as he hosts a press conference to highlight local small business successes as a result of new federal programs to boost small business lending. The small business owners were successful in obtaining loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration's Recovery Act provisions, and the recent Small Business Jobs Act of 2010, which extended access to capital, increased tax incentives for investment, and supported more innovation and entrepreneurship. Senator Menendez spoke before hundreds of our state’s probation officers and professional personnel, and announced his consideration of legislation for the 112th Congress, that would set up a Probation and Parole Officer Safety Task Force within the USDOJ to study federal and state policies as they affect the personal safety of probation and parole officers during the execution of their duties.
Senator Menendez stands with Debbie Hart, President of BioNJ, the industry's state organization, and William "Chip" Baird, Chief Financial Officer of PTC Therapeutics announce $53 million in grants and tax credits for 133 small biotech firms in NJ. This funding will help New Jersey stay at the forefront of biotechnology innovation, help protect and create quality local jobs, and help facilitate better health care for everyone. It was awarded through a program championed by Senator Menendez as part of the health insurance reform legislation, the "Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project". After the announcement, Senator Menendez toured the facilities of PTC Technologies where some of the research will be conducted.
Senator Robert Menendez attends a USDA Rural Development award announcement ceremony in Paulsboro, NJ. The South Jersey Port Corporation will be awarded a USDA Rural Development loan and grant totaling $4.337M for a water treatment facility that will support the development and operation of the Paulsboro Port Project in Paulsboro, NJ. The facility will server almost 2,400 local households and 100 businesses.
