Secaucus High School honors veterans in ceremony with Senator Menendez

Students at Secaucus High School stepped out of their classrooms today, to honor and celebrate the veterans in their community.

The school hosted a Veterans Day Ceremony in the Arthur F. Couch Performance Art Center, that was attended by local veterans from the town's VFW post, Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli, Secaucus Town Council members, and U.S Senator Bob Menendez.

During the ceremony, Secaucus students gave speeches explaining the history and significance of Veterans Day. The school's band also performed for the veterans in attendance.

"Our freedoms are often taken for granted, but they are provided by the sacrifices by the men and women who wear the uniform," Menendez said during a speech at the event.

"We have 320 million Americans, and the reality is that only so few of us take care of the security of the many. And they provide that security and make sacrifices so that all of us can enjoy this great life."

Menendez also used the opportunity to discuss a fiscal funding bill the senate passed yesterday, that will give an $80 billion budget for veterans' benefit programs and constructions on military bases for 2016. The bill adds $1 billion to President Barack Obama's planned budget. The senator says those kind of measures are what truly honors the nation's veterans...
