Montclair youth sports teams focus on head injury prevention

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez and U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell reintroduced the Concussion Treatment and Care Tools [ConTACT] Act last week, authorizing a five-year grant program for states to provide professional development for athletic trainers and coaches to implement best practices in concussion diagnosis, treatment and management. The program will earmark $5 million for the first year of the program, according to a release sent out by Pascrell's office, and additional funding as needed in the following four year.

The legislation, of which Menendez and Pascrell have been primary sponsors, was first approved in the House of Representatives in 2010 and was sparked by the 2008 death of Montclair High School football player Ryne Dougherty.
