The nuclear deal reached with Iran sets off a furious political struggle in the U.S. and a diplomatic showdown with America’s most important allies in the Middle East.

...Lawmakers also are concerned about the lifting of a U.N. arms embargo on Iran. Under the deal, the embargo lifts after five years—a step questioned in Congress. Related restrictions against ballistic missile transfers would be removed in eight years. 

“I’m troubled that the agreement lifts the arms embargo in five years, which is something we should never capitulate on because it allows Iran to earn billions of dollars in newly-available oil revenues to continue to fund terrorism and further destabilize the overall situation in the Middle East,” said Sen. Bob Menendez (D., N.J.), a member of the Foreign Relations Committee.
