Here's how some Sandy victims in N.J. may get more money

More than 70,000 New Jersey residents whose homes were ravaged by Hurricane Sandy may have a shot at getting more insurance money.  

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to review certain insurance claims to see if policyholders were shortchanged after Sandy, officials announced on Friday at a press conference in Pier A Park in Hoboken. U.S. Senator Robert Menendez said a "perverse incentive structure," led some write in insurance companies to "err on the side of underpaying claims at the expense of homeowners."

"These victims were getting mere pennies on the dollar of the coverage they were entitled to, not nearly enough to rebuild their homes and their lives," Menendez said. "In many cases, not all, adjusters and engineering reports were being deliberately manipulated to understate the damage caused by Sandy and to reduce payments to claimants."
