GOP threat to not fund Homeland Security as 'crazy' as Seattle Seahawks play calling, Menendez says

Framed by a security checkpoint at Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey's two Democratic U.S. Senators urged Republicans in Congress not to hold up funding for the Department of Homeland Security because they oppose President Obama's executive order shielding 4 million undocumented immigrants from deportation.

Robert Menendez and Cory Booker held a joint news conference in Terminal C, calling on Republicans to separate their opposition to Obama's action on immigration last year from the broader issue of funding DHS programs. While the department does oversee immigration programs, it also includes the Transportation Security Administration, which screens passengers and baggage for air travel, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which responds to disasters.

"Closing down the Department of Homeland Security is as crazy as the last play in last night's Super Bowl," said Menendez, referring to the Seattle Seahawks' decisionto throw a pass on New England's 1-yard line that was then intercepted, sealing the Patriots' victory.
