U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker and Congressman Frank LoBiondo (N.J.-02) today announced a $21,517,020 federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant to retain 85 Atlantic City firefighters who were slated for layoff in the aftermath of the closings of four casinos last year.

“This federal funding will help ensure the Atlantic City Fire Department is adequately staffed and has the resources it needs to save lives and keep the community safe,” Menendez said. “This grant will keep 85 firefighters on the job and comes at a critical time when Atlantic City is grappling with tough economic times. I will continue to fight for federal resources to help Atlantic City rebound stronger than ever before.”
