“This important funding will help ensure New Jersey families have a safe and stable place to call home and raise their children,” Menendez, the ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development, said in a statement.

“This money will allow our housing agencies to make much needed repairs and upgrades to help thousands of families across the state access safe, quality, reliable and affordable housing that all Americans deserve.”

Booker, who lived in Newark public housing between 1998 and 2006, echoed that sentiment.

“New Jerseyans deserve the peace of mind that comes from knowing they have a roof over their head that is safe and affordable. This federal investment will have long-lasting reverberations in these communities for years to come.”

Statewide, HUD awarded grants totaling $84,538,113 and will go towards helping public housing authorities preserve, repair, and modernize affordable homes across the state.
