New Jersey's Democratic U.S. lawmakers today recommended changes to Gov. Chris Christie for the state's Hurricane Sandy relief program.

In a letter to Christie, U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez and Cory Booker and the state's six House Democrats said that the governor should release the oversight reports about recovery spending, increase oversight of builders and their subcontractors, make sure homeowners seeking help know what documents they need to submit and set deadlines for ruling on their applications, and address the problems faced by homeowners whose mortgage assistance help will expire before they get relief funds.

"While we have come a long way in rebuilding, we all know the job is far from complete," the lawmakers wrote. Their letter was submitted during the 30-day period for comments on the state's amended plan for using disaster relief funds under the federal Community Block Grant Program.
