NEWARK - New Jersey U.S. Senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez today announced the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety nearly $2 million dollars.

The federal grant money is being used to keep roadways safe for drivers by improving highway safety, and reducing traffic accidents, injuries and deaths.

Menendez says because New Jersey is one of the most heavily traveled states in the nation, this is about saving lives.

The state is receiving these federal funds through the Community Highway Safety Grant Program.
