Menendez, Lautenberg Announce More Than $11 Million to Help Sandy Victims Access Recovery Resources
Disaster Victims Can Receive One-On-One Attention
January 25, 2013
NEWARK – U.S. Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) today announced that the New Jersey Department of Family Development will receive more than $11 million to match Sandy victims with individual case managers to help residents identify and receive available aid. The funding is provided through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Disaster Case Management Program.
“New Jersey families are working hard to recover from Sandy, and this federal funding will help ensure that they have access to all the resources they need,” said Senator Lautenberg, Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee that funds FEMA. “It can be difficult for families to navigate the resources available to them while they're getting back on their feet, and this federal program will help ensure that Sandy victims have access to personalized expert guidance to help get them through this difficult time.”
“Thousands of New Jersey families and individuals continue to struggle in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. This federal funding will enable dedicated professionals to respond the particular needs of those affected by the storm, as we look forward to our long-term recovery and rebuilding a better and stronger New Jersey,” said Senator Menendez.
This federal funding supports FEMA case managers that will work one-on-one with disaster survivors and facilitate access to available federal, state, and private resources. Case managers assess the victim's needs, develop a recovery plan, and help ensure that the individual receives the support available to them.
