Gary Banganiban and his wife Zyra, two newly minted Jersey City residents who emigrated from the Philippines last month, showed up Saturday at city hall with one goal in mind: to sign up for health care. 

The enrollment period for health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act began today, and the Banganibans were two of dozens of other residents who arrived to talk about or get coverage. And health providers and government contractors were ready at city hall to help residents navigate their options. 

"Can we afford it? That's the basic thing," Gary Banganiban said. "I know that we have to be insured and we wanted to know our options."

While the Banganibans waited in the council conference room for their turn to speak with enrollment specialists, in the council chambers down the hall city and county officials, as well as Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Rep. Donald Payne Jr. (D-10), kicked off the opening of the enrollment period.
