Menendez Convenes Students, Faculty at Montclair State to Discuss Student Loans
Senator Menendez joined students and faculty from Montclair State University to discuss how the imminent interest rate hike on federally-subsidized Stafford Loans issued after July 1, 2012 would affect student borrowers and universities. Senator Menendez supports freezing current interest rates which are set to double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent on July 1st unless Congress intervenes.

Menendez At Southern Jersey Medical Center To Talk Expansion
Senator Menendez visited the Southern Jersey Family Medical Center in Atlantic City to announce a nearly $3.12 million grant to expand and improve its facilities, which will create new jobs and provide access to vital health care services for more local families. The grant was part of an overall investment of $18 million to expand and improve services at seven New Jersey health centers and was made possible by the Affordable Care Act.

Standing with the parents of two New Jersey students who lost their lives during the deadly attacks at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) unveiled legislation aimed to protect students from harm on college and university campuses. Named for 23 year old victim Michael Pohle Jr. of Flemington, the Michael Pohle Jr. Campus Emergency Alert Act will significantly increase penalties for colleges and universities that fail to timely and effectively warn students about a campus emergency.

Senator Menendez hosted two New Jersey businesses at a discussion with Senate Democrats about how they, and other small and medium businesses, are strengthening local economies, creating jobs, and how their efforts may be replicated nationally. Senator Menendez is pleased to update all of those who have been following the story that Yarelis Bonilla will get the bone-marrow transplant she so desperately needs to fight her battle against leukemia. Senator Menendez met this brave five-year-old along with her strong family at the Beth Israel Children’s hospital in Newark to share in the news they so longed to hear: Yarelis’ sister, Giselle Bonilla Ramirez, has been approved for humanitarian parole and can finally come to the United States from El Salvador to be her sister’s donor and help in her fight for survival.
